BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
June 16, 2026
3:00 P.M.
The regular meeting of Sachem Public Library Board of Trustees was attended by Diane Longo, Thomas Lohr, Robert Winowitch, Neely McCahey, Kristen Stroh and Sandra Bartalis.
Susan Tychnowicz informed the trustees that she would not be available for the June 16, 2026 Board meeting and was formally excused.
The Board members previewed the Board meeting items on the agenda electronically prior to the meeting. Susan Tychnowicz reviewed all warrants with the Director before having them presented to the Board for their approval.
The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m.
The meeting began with a Pledge of Allegiance.
The Board adopted the agenda with the addition of a presentation from Anthony Bliss for the Studio Renovation and an update of the 2026-2031 Strategic Plan. (Longo, Winowitch; unanimous)
Public Expression / Participation
A member of the community attended the Board meeting. The Director and Board welcomed Erica Hartmann to the Board meeting. Studio Department staff members, Alex Boris and Colleen Hutchens attended the Board meeting for the Studio renovation presented by Librarian III, Anthony Bliss.
Minutes
The Board approved the minutes of the Regular Board meeting on May 26, 2026. (Winowitch, Longo; unanimous)
The minutes of an Executive Session on May 26, 2026 were approved. (Longo, Lohr; unanimous)
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s Report for May 2026 in the amount of $6,009,108.78 was approved. (Lohr, Winowitch; unanimous)
Payroll and Related Expenses
The Payroll and Related Expenses for May 2026 in the amount of $696,505.36 were approved. (Winowitch, Longo; unanimous)
Payroll Warrant #38 dated May 7, 2026 in the amount of $109,365.24 was approved. (Longo, Lohr; unanimous)
Payroll Warrant #39 dated May 21, 2026 in the amount of $57,289.31 was approved. (Lohr, Winowitch; unanimous)
The May 2026 Payroll Summary was approved. (Longo, Lohr; unanimous)
Schedule of Bills
The June 16, 2026 Schedule of Bills, warrant #40 in the amount of $473,110.14 was approved. (Lohr, Winowitch; unanimous)
Director’s Report
The Board reviewed the Director’s report with interest. Ms. McCahey discussed with the Board a flyer mailed to the residents from Assemblyman Doug Smith’s office. It featured many of Sachem Public Library summer events.
Ms. McCahey reported to the Board that she received a letter from the Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Brookhaven. They plan to repave Holbrook Road in the near future.
Ms. McCahey recapped the visit from SCLS liaison to the library back in April. She said that the liaison hopes the Governor’s office can visit the library in August. She also stated that the Director’s report may be revamped in the future to include each department’s monthly report.
Quarterly Sustainability Report
Mrs. Stroh reported to the Board about the Quarterly Sustainability Report. She reported utility consumption, sustainability initiatives and program highlights. Mrs. Stroh stated that Sachem Public Library will mentor the Southold Library in its efforts to achieve their Sustainability Initiative.
Library Statistics
The Board reviewed all the library statistics with interest. A discussion took place about May’s programming attendance.

Old Business
The Board approved the revised Display and Exhibit Policy and Exhibitor’s Agreement / Release Form. (Winowitch, Longo; unanimous)
The Director presented to the Board a draft 2026-2031 Strategic Plan.
New Business
On the Director’s recommendation, the Board of Trustees authorized the award of the Studio Renovation Project Contract to Fidele Construction Inc. at 606 Johnson Avenue, Suite 32 in Bohemia NY 11716 in the amount of $813,000 as per the library’s architect John Tanzi. (Longo, Lohr; unanimous)
Other
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
Executive Session
The Board adjourned into Executive Session at 4:01 p.m. to discuss collective negotiations pursuant to Article Fourteen of the Civil Service Law. (Longo, Winowitch; unanimous)

The Personnel Report was approved. (Winowitch, Lohr; unanimous)
The Non-Affiliated Staff Personnel Report was approved. (Lohr, Winowitch; unanimous)
