Location: The Old West

In 1893 Montana, brothers Gustav ("Old Red") and Otto ("Big Red") Amlingmeyer are left to make their way in the world when the rest of their German immigrant family is wiped out by flood & disease. They sign on as ranch hands at the Bar VR cattle ranch, owned by a British aristocrat. "Old Red," the older and more taciturn of the brothers, is illiterate, but is captivated by the exploits of Sherlock Holmes that "Big Red" reads to him from Harper's Weekly. And when confronted by murder, "Old Red," who has a sharp eye and a knack for figuring things out, decides to put the Master Detective's methods to use and do some "detectifyin" and "deducifyin'" of his own.
